13 funseekers die after night club collapse in Dominican Rep.

A nightclub in Santiago Domingo, Dominican Republic, became the scene of a horrific tragedy when its roof collapsed, claiming the lives of 13 people and leaving several others injured.

Aside from that, it was learnt that over 90 clubbers who were partying at the time of the tragic occurrence were transferred to the nearest hospital after sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

As gathered, the incident which took place in the Jet Set nightclub unfolded during a live performance by Rubby Perez, a popular singer in the region.

According to the Dominican Republic police, who confirmed the casualties on Tuesday, search and rescue efforts are in place to locate anyone trapped under the collapsed roof.

“We are still working, searching for people in the rubble. We presume that many of them are still alive, that’s why the authorities here with their teams will not stop until we find the last person in that rubble,” said Juan Manuel Mendez, the nation’s Director of Emergency Management Operations.

“Our city wakes up to a terrible tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. My deepest sympathy goes out to the families still waiting for news of their loved ones,” Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía de Garrigó added.

She said that the city’s national disaster response committee is active, and investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the incident.
