136 hoodlums under detention as Police raid Abuja black spots

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended 136 suspected hoodlums following a series of coordinated raids targeting crime-prone areas across the Abuja.

It was learnt that the suspects, who were arrested across several black spots and uncompleted building in the FCT, were taken into custody, following their involvement in drug trafficking and other illicit trade that has continued to aid criminal activities within the region.

The arrested suspects, said to be causing menace to the country’s seat of power through their illicit activities, were arrested as part of the law enforcement agency’s effort to tackle drug trafficking which remains a major security concern in Abuja.

According to the command on Thursday, this operation was conducted through a collaborative efforts by operatives from the 13 divisional police headquarters with divisional commands.

The agency stated that this exercise, which led to the recovery of several items, was part of its ongoing efforts to curb activities such as robbery, drug peddling and other forms of violent crimes.

Some of the items recovered during the operation include four cutlasses, some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and various illicit drugs.

According to the agency, the arrested suspects are currently undergoing screening and interrogation at various police divisions, and those found guilty of criminal activities will be prosecuted.

The FCT Police Command, meanwhile, reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and continuing to adopt effective strategies to stay ahead of criminal elements within the territory.
