At least 13 people are confirmed dead alongside others injured following a fire incident which engulfed buildings in Hong Kong.
The incident ensued after fire broke out at a complex and spreading to its bamboo scaffolding, leading to nine persons, including a firefighter, dead at the scene and four others confirmed dead at the hospital.
The authorities held that over 700 people have been evacuated from the buildings and taken to temporary shelters. However, many others are feared trapped under debris.
The Fire Department Services relayed that at least five buildings were affected, including the Wang Fuk Court’s housing complex in Tai Po district, where it happened on Wednesday.
”Three people are in a critical condition having suffered burns while others have also been injured,” the department added.
”A number of firefighters have also been hurt while trying to tackle flames as they ripped through 31-storey Wang Fuk Court.”
Sequel to the inferno which began at about 2:51pm, renovation works are being carried out on the site.
