Tragedy struck in Zangon Kataf Local Government area of Kaduna State after unidentified gunmen attacked a community under the local government and killed no fewer than 12 persons during the onslaught.
Aside from the fatalities recorded, two persons were said to have also sustained varying degrees of injuries while trying to escape being killed by the assailants.
As gathered, the assailants stormed Peigyim village, near Kibori, Atyap Chiefdom of Zangon Kataf local government area yesterday’s night and carried out the heinous crime.
Confirming the development on Monday, the state’s Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said that the two injured persons have been taken to nearby medical facility for proper care.
He said that the deceased were identified as Philbia Yusuf, Suzanna Ezekiel, Rahib Alex, Ishaku Bamaiyi, Deborah Ishaku, Tinat Bamaiyi, Zichat Kefas, Sunday Daniel, Hauwa Gabriel, Fedelia Famson, Sadia Donald and Goodness Kefas.
According to him, the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai sent his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims killed in the mindless and gruesome attack and prayed for the repose of their souls.
“The Governor wished the injured residents a quick recovery. Security agencies are poised to sustain patrols in the area, as investigations into the incident progress,” he said in a statement.
